Pedestrian access is allowed along the trail through the property to the point. Overnight camping and fires are not permitted.

To provide outdoor recreational opportunities and education for Chebeague residents and visitors. To preserve the natural and scenic beauty of Deer Point and to maintain traditional access to the shore.

Description & History

With a strip of gray ledge separating its thatch of dark spruce from the ocean, Deer Point is reminiscent of a typical downeast Maine island. It is a wild place, exposed to the open ocean, and it has been a favorite spot for picnics for generations.  Thanks to the generosity of its owner this spot will stay in its wild and scenic condition and be accessible to the public forever. 

The protected property totals 13 acres along the seaward side of the steep ridge that forms the southwest end of Chebeague. The two acres at the the very tip are protected with a "forever wild" easement while the remaining 11 acres are protected with a conservation easement allowing for the development of only two residential buildings. The "forever wild" status of the point means that there may be no changes there except for the removal of dead or damaged trees or other vegetation.
